mystery resolved...

thank you for your response. Yes, the names.nsf file got replaced with some users names.nsf
I have tested it on the test server and was able to replicate that - when you are in the People&Groups tab and select person w/o opening their mail file and do replace design it connects to servers names.nsf instead of users.
